During the final laps of the GP Mclaren engineers radio'd the command, "Yellow G3, yellow G3" to Magnussen.

In other words, he was free to switch settings to "attack mode," and push hard to the end. But more specifically, do any huge Mclaren fans know how many maps there are or what each setting represents? Is Yellow G3 related to fuel specifically, or is it more than that (ignition timing, kers boost, etc)?

And is every team's terminology different for these fuel settings? Wonder if any have awesome titles like BEAST MODE, or um, yeah... something like that.

If I am not mistaken, this one has to do with ignition timing, and they're color coded like that to make it easier for the driver to change the setting, so basically "Yellow know to G3"

I couldn't find a photo of the 2014 wheel, but the last several models look like "G" and "Yellow" are the same selector - so the selection is "G3" or "Yellow3" Engineer shouted it both to make sure he didn't misunderstand and put on the parking brake, change the KERS setting, or something else.

I'm guessing it's mixture/timing/VTEC.

Edit - found a site that goes through some of them on last year's wheel.
